چکیده

Understanding electrified interfaces is crucial to enabling a multitude of applications, including photo(electrocatalysis), supercapacitors, pseudocapacitors and batteries. However, reaching an atomistic understanding remains challenging will require the combination development refined computations experiments.

Capillary waves at soft electrified interfaces

Recent theory of capillary waves along the interface between two immiscible electrolytes is generalized to include the non-linear polarization of the double layer. The theory covers both the effects of the capillary waves on the double layer capacitance, as well as the effect of charging the interface on the amplitudes and spectrum of capillary waves. The theory explains major available experim...

Electrochemistry at Electrified Soft Interfaces – Novel Approaches to Old Problems

This thesis addresses some known difficulties in the field of liquid | liquid electrochemistry by presenting novel means of controlling mass transfer, monolayermodification of the interface, and probing interfacial reactivity. A novel rectangular channel flow electrochemical cell suitable for studying charge transfer at liquid | liquid interfaces is presented. The organic phase is immobilised u...

Molecular ordering at electrified interfaces: Template and potential effects

A combination of cyclic voltammetry and in situ scanning tunneling microscopy was employed to examine the adsorption and phase transition of 1,1'-dibenzyl-4,4'-bipyridinium molecules (abbreviated as DBV(2+)) on a chloride-modified Cu(111) electrode surface. The cyclic voltammogram (CV) of the Cu(111) electrode exposed to a mixture of 10 mM HCl and 0.1 mM DBVCl2 shows three distinguishable pairs...

Understanding Oxide-metal Interfaces

One of the most important features of the interface between an oxide and a metal is the sharp change in dielectric constant between the two materials. This suggests that the stabilisation of charges (lattice ions and defect centres) in the non-metal by the polarisation of the metal may contribute strongly to the interfacial adhesion. This effect can be treated in classical electrostatics by the...

Augmented Music-Understanding Interfaces

One of my research goals is to enrich music listening experiences by deepening each person’s understanding of music. Music listening experiences depend on music-understanding abilities. Although the music-composing/performing abilities of musicians are often discussed, the music-understanding abilities of casual listeners have not been well discussed or studied. It is difficult, for example, to...
